Through our programs we actively serve the community as a resource for collaboration and coordination, critical functions that are central to effective implementation.  All of our programs are centered on the strategic pillars - and the overarching National Strategy to Operationalize GIS.  See the link below to access the framework for this national strategy.

Outreach & Awareness

Outreach & awareness is a cornerstone to all NAPSG Foundation programs.  It is through effective outreach that we get the right information and the right tools into the practitioners hands.  Effective outreach is the foundation for raising awareness - the platform of our education pedagogy.

One of our high priorities is reaching out to the public safety and homeland security communities nation-wide. As part of our mission we are dedicated to providing outreach and awareness so that the community knows emerging best practices, new opportunities for funding, and the availability of tools to make their work more effective.

We conduct outreach and awareness at many levels and through various channels.  Our Regional Leadership Teams and national practitioner network are central to all our outreach and awareness efforts.  In just the past year we have reached over 1,100 public safety practitioners from 26 states through our workshops.  As new projects develop among the community we may issue a press release or hold a special educational round tables for policy makers.  We also participate in conferences by holding panel discussions on public safety GIS use-case scenarios and through exhibit booths where we make our tools & resources available to the widest audience possible.  In 2010 & 2011 we participated in:

"We have all this technology available to us.  And there is an up-swelling from the people we serve demanding that we embrace GIS technology.  That is why I am here, at the NAPSG training workshop." - Jim Metz, Firefighter, Paramedic, and GIS Coordinator, Durango Fire & Rescue Authority (CO)
