Southern Region (R8) Risk Analysis v1.0

A spatial dataset of wildfire risks, exposures, vulnerabilities, and opportunities for reducing risks through strategic management investments. The analysis area is all landscapes in the Southeastern United States with at least 25% forest cover. The Southern Region Fire Adaptation project is undertaken by researchers at the USDA Forest Service Southern Research Station in collaboration with USDA Forest Service Region 8. Products are considered finalized as of August 2023, and are expected to be updated in the future as major data inputs (e.g., recent climate, fuels) are updated.

This layer explores census tracts in Cook County that have at least one flag in the Social Vulnerability Index socioeconomic theme. The Socioeconomic Theme 1 group includes four variables; population living below poverty level, population that is unemployed, per capita income, and population with no high school diploma.
